How does it work?

The science of laser hair removal is rooted in targeting melanin, also called pigment. This is the substance that provides the natural color of skin, hair and iris of the eye. During the laser hair removal process, the physicians target the melanin in hair follicles to deactivate them and inhibit further growth, while preventing the overheating of skin and surrounding tissues.

Hair Follicle

Hair Follicle

The Cynosure  Elite MPX most effectively disables hair that is in the active growth (anagen) phase. Because all the hair in a treated area may not be in the anagen phase, more than one laser treatment is necessary to remove the hair that subsequently enters the growth phase. Our goal after 6 treatments is to have sustained 90-95% permanent hair reduction.

With the use of the SmartCool® chilled air device, the laser treatments are made much more comfortable for patients.

Laser application

Targeted Laser

The laser seeks out the melanin found in the hair follicle. The light of the laser beam is transformed into heat when it comes in contact with the pigment in the hair.

Hair Follicle Removed

Hair Removed

The Laser emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin, to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed.  Upon absorption, the energy is transformed into heat, which can disable the follicle, while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed.

SAY HELLO TO SMOOTH, SEXY SKIN

At Las Vegas Med SPa we believe our Multiplex laser hair removal process is a more effective way to reduce unwanted hair.  Our procedure is more effective, faster and safer than topical creams, electrolysis or low-powered at home laser devices.   Dr. Carullo’s and state-of-the-art equipment are just some of the reasons we are an industry leader.

Common Treatment Areas

There are many different hair removal lasers and we take pride in offering the Elite Multiplex because we feel that we can best personalize a therapy based on what will work best for each patient.

We use the newest technology available

We use the Cynosure Elite MPX laser,  which combines two optimal hair removal wavelengths into one system: the 755-nm Alexandrite laser and the 1064-nm Nd: YAG laser allowing Dr. Carullo’s to switch between wavelengths during your procedure to select the most appropriate laser for any given hair or skin type.

• The 755-nm wavelength has high melanin absorption characteristics and proven long-term results for permanent hair reduction and pigmented lesion removal.

• The high-powered 1064-nm Nd: YAG is the safest wavelength for permanent hair reduction on darker skin types and tanned skin.

• The Elite delivers high fluence from large spot sizes-ensuring deeper penetration, faster treatment sessions and optimal results.

Why The Elite MPX Laser is used at Las Vegas Med Spa over other methods of hair removal?

Laser Hair Removal vs. Shaving

Shaving is the most common method of hair removal.  Once hair is shaved, it typically grows back in a matter of days, and can result in cuts, ingrown hairs, razor burn and razor rash, and missed stubble.   Shaving also gets expensive over time due to the number of products purchased to ensure a safe experience.

Laser hair removal is a smart alternative.  Laser treatment gets down to the root of the hair follicle, the need for daily or weekly repeat treatments with alternative hair removal methods disappears. There’s no need to buy creams, lotions, or replacement blades or razors. And you never have to worry about razor burn, stubble, ingrown hairs or cuts.

Laser Hair Removal vs. Waxing

Hair removal through the use of hot wax is a popular method. Wax is first applied to the area, a cloth strip is placed on top of the wax, and the strip is ripped off, removing the hair by plucking it out from the root of the hair follicle. Naturally this process can be extremely painful, and what’s worse, it needs to be repeated every few weeks. Waxing also requires the hair to be grown out prior to treatment, while laser hair removal does not.

In contrast, laser hair removal is the far gentler option. Instead of plucking the hair out from the root, this method uses pulsing light beams to target the hair follicle. Normally four to seven treatment sessions will provide optimum results.

Laser Hair Removal vs. Electrolysis

With electrolysis, a needle is inserted into each hair follicle. Then an electric shock burns the follicle to restrict hair growth. It’s every bit as painful as it sounds.

Laser hair removal utilizes a quicker and less painful process. The laser’s hand piece has a far larger treatment area, so treatments can be completed much faster with minimal discomfort. Compared to electrolysis, which can take a year or more to complete one hair at a time, laser hair removal treatments take only a matter of months, with each treatment disabling and removing thousands of hairs at once.

Why the Elite MPX Laser used at Las Vegas Med Spa is superior to other lasers?

Elite Multiplex vs. Alexandrite Alone

The 755nm Alexandrite is the Gold-Standard for treating lighter skinned patients (i.e., skin types I & II) but alone it is very limited.  Due to the nature of laser hair removal technology, Alexandrite laser hair treatment isn’t for everyone. Because the laser targets dark pigmentation, the hair in question must be darker than the skin surrounding it.  Therefore, the ideal candidates are people with light skin and dark hair. Blondes, redheads, people with tanned skin and people with naturally dark skin are not good candidates for Alexandrite laser hair removal.

Elite Multiplex vs.  Nd:Yag Alone

The 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength is the safest wavelength for permanent hair reduction on darker skin types and tanned skin  (skin types V & VI)

Elite Multiplex vs.  IPL

IPL lasers use shorter light wavelengths, making them more diffuse and less powerful for the permanent reduction of hair. This technology lacks the strength to penetrate to a deeper level where the hair root resides, and requires a higher number of treatment sessions to achieve successful results.

Elite Multiplex vs.  Diode Lasers

The 800-810nm diode laser is mainly used for skin types I – III.    Diode lasers use smaller application area (surface of the probe the contacts the skin),  it can take twice as long to treat the same area as compared to the time taken when using The Elite Multiplex laser machine.  It has been reported in Cosmetic Surgery Times that the Diode Lasers hurts more than the Elite Multiplex on a per pulse basis.  Diode Lasers can achieve results on light skin and fine hair but their smaller application area means that it can take much longer to treat the same area as compared to the time taken when using the Elite Multiplex.

The Elite Multiplex utilizes a quicker, more effective and less painful process.

The laser’s hand piece has a far larger treatment area, so treatments can be completed much faster with minimal discomfort.   Multiplex allows the doctors at Las Vegas Med Spa to select wavelength combinations (Alex/YAG, YAG/Alex) and adjust pulse durations.  Multiplex provides great treatment flexibility for lighter and darker skin types.  Multiplex means greater customization for each patient—and greater control for the doctors.

What to expect on the day of your treatment.

Dr. Carullo works with you at every stage of your treatment to ensure your experience is as pleasant and comfortable as it can be.

Preparation for  laser hair removal

  • Before your first session, it is important for you to avoid waxing for six weeks. This is also the case with the use of tweezers. The laser needs to be able to identify the hair follicle. During this time period, shaving is acceptable.
  • You MUST stay out of the sun. Any tanning of the skin can result in pigmentation in the areas you laser.
  • If you are prone to nervousness, you should avoid caffeine for 24 hours before your session.
  • On the day before your treatment, you should shave with a clean, new razor. By shaving, the lasers will be able to locate the follicles. Using a clean, new razor ensures there is no lingering bacteria that could cause contact dermatitis after your laser treatment. (Contact dermatitis is a delayed type of allergic reaction of the skin resulting from skin contact with a specific allergen.)

Your schedule on your treatment day.

  • Arrive at the center for your appointment and check in.
  • A medical assistant will escort you to the treatment room.
  • Apply numbing cream (if using).
  • Dr. Carullo will consult and answer any questions prior to clearing you for treatment.
  • Laser gel is applied and treatment is performed.
  • Laser gel is cleaned up and you’re given a towel and warm washcloth to remove any remaining gel.
  • Schedule your next appointment at checkout.

What to expect: Physical and social down time.

Physical down time is typically associated with surgery, where you have to rest after a procedure and you can’t go about your daily life until a period of healing has occurred. There is no physical downtime with Las Vegas Med Spa’s  Laser Hair Removal.

Social down time refers to the recovery time you need to feel more comfortable with your appearance, although you aren’t physically restricted from doing any of your typical daily tasks.  After your treatment you should be ready to go back to work or go on with your day.  In terms of hair removal, you will notice some hairs falling out during or directly after the treatment. This trend will continue for about 21 days – just when it is about time for you to reschedule your next appointment. Rare after effects include: redness in the area that was treated.
